South Park: the Stick of Truth censored in Europe

South Park is an animated TV series well known for its black humor and the criticism against society, topical issues and American culture trough surrealist stories and situations. With this record, it was almost safe to say that the new videogame based on South Park’s universe would bring controversy upon its release.

Some portions of the game have been censored by Ubisoft in Europe for its release

Some portions of the game have been censored by Ubisoft in Europe for its release. The scenes have been cut and replaced with an EU flag background and an ashamed Michelangelo’s David sculpture accompanied with onscreen text that describes the censored action. Australia is also censoring the videogame in the same way as the European version, with a background showing a crying koala while the text describes the censored scene.

Ubisoft EMEA decided to cut the content from the game, including the following scenes:

  • A mini-game in which the player performs abortion on Randy
  • A scene in which a doctor performs abortion on the main character
  • Five scenes in which several characters are getting anal probes

What do you think? Is this necessary censorship, or are they taking this too seriously?
